An afternoon i will never forget, March 18, 2008, my birthday and the day my heart froze with fear.
I received a phone from Baby Hailey’s school that i had better come right away….”her lips are blue, she is shaking and not breathing right” those words played over and over as though they were witten in stone across my soul. The minute I saw her I knew we were in trouble, she was like a zombie and didnt even recognize me. For the first time in her life she was silent, and looked so helpless, she was breathing as though her lungs were shutting down, her little body shaking , her skin was ghost white and covered with goose bumps. Then it seemed like the world stopped…… i thought i was going to lose her and my heart was crumbling right before me.
At the emergency room , after waiting to see the doctor it was as though she tapped back to reality, the glazed look on her face was now fadding and her color was returning. My spirit was filled up with joy as she began her baby babbling! My baby was back! I could see the life returning in her eyes. Her breathing was 90% better and her famous dimpled smile spread across her face! Then the doctor arrived, her temp was 104 degrees. They gave her antibiotics, tylenol and fluids. The doctor says she had the flu?
We followed up with the pediatrician the following day. He says its just a cold because she had not had a fever since the incident?? I pray that they are right and it was not something more serious. The nurse at the doctors thought it sounded like she had a type of baby seizure?
I am thankful she is back to her ornery self and back to making me laugh and not having a mini-stroke! This is my girl, full of many suprises but she is coated with strength.

This was definitely the scariest day I can remember experiencing in a long time. It was nearly 5:00 PM and I was preparing to leave my office when I got the panicked call from Jamie. The cell phone was breaking up, but I heard “…baby breathing…emergency room…”, needless to say I was setting records getting to the hospital. It took me between 5 - 10 minutes to find the emergency room, by then she was back to normal breathing but still spaced out of it, not her normal self at all.
After a little while in the emergency room we were getting back to normal, she was smiling again as her mammy and Aunt Carleigh were playing with her and a doctors glove filled with water. That’s when I started to relax and breath again normal myself…

Omigosh - I would’ve been FREAKIN’ OUT. I’m SOOOO glad to hear everything turned out okay… but I’m nervouse abput the doctor’s explanation…?
It just doesn’t seem to fit… those symptoms just aren’t very typical of the normal cold/flu, you know? My godbrother had a similar episode, as an older child (about 12), and it turned out he was diabetic. Did they give you any instructions in case it should happen again?
I’ll be keeping Miss Hailey in my prayers - so glad she pulled thru like a champion!!!
