Baby Gate

These things are life savers!  Baby Hailey has been taking a few steps here and there and getting much more adventurous.  A week or so ago she would climb up the stairs one or two steps before she got scared and called for us to come get her.  The other day, the same day she started zipping around on her walker, she made it up the entire flight of stairs before we realized she was even on them.  Talk about a panic!

We started putting up a baby gate on whatever floor we are on to keep her off the stairs.  She’s an ace no doubt on getting up those stairs, down is another story though and she has tried.  I’m nervous that she’ll slip one of these days and go tumbling down, so the gate is going to be a more permanent fixture in our house.  I’ll let her play on the stairs when I can be right behind her with my hands ready to catch her but otherwise she’s grounded.  :)

Babies First Steps

Baby Hailey has taken a few baby steps already, taking one or two steps before she loses her balance.  She can walk from the couch to the coffee table where a few days ago she would crawl even that far.  She’s making lots of progress.  Just a couple of days ago, she would walk with her baby walker, pushing it in a straight line until she ran into something then crawl away.  Now she’s a regular Mario Andretti with that thing, cruising around the house making turns around objects and you turns.  She even gets brazen enough to do baby stunts with it, pushing it from the side or backwards.  She just loves to show off!

She also has taken a liking to the stairs.  In the past couple of days she has went from going up one or two steps and getting scared to flying up the entire stair case before you knew she was even trying.  Of course, we now are keeping out a gate across the stairs, but it is exciting to watch her start to spread her wings.  The past couple of days she has been trying regularly to stand up and maintain her balance and she’s getting good at it.  She hasn’t taken steps yet from free standing, but she can stand there longer and longer each time.  It’s only a matter of time now before we have our first baby steps!  Go Hailey go!
